1. Start with a controlled artwork brief

Identify the primary motif, supporting icons, background, accent colors, logo use, and intended mood. Supply original or licensed artwork and confirm any trademark, team, professional, or institution-specific symbol before production.

Use a version name or date for every artwork revision. This prevents the factory and buyer from reviewing different files with similar names.

2. Translate screen colors into yarn decisions

Screens display light; yarn reflects light and interacts with texture. Provide physical color references or named standards when accuracy is important, then review the available yarn direction. The finished knit may look different from a digital swatch because of yarn structure and neighboring colors.

Agree on the approval method and acceptable variation before bulk. A photograph can support communication, but it should not replace the buyer-approved physical sample when color is critical.

3. Design the repeat around the sock construction

The repeat should respect the cuff, calf, denser ankle area, heel, foot, and toe. Motifs may stretch or compress differently across these zones. Large icons can distort, while small details can disappear in knit resolution.

The development team can adjust scale, spacing, contrast, and placement while preserving the design intent. This translation is what turns an illustration into knit-ready Jacquard artwork.

4. Review several views of the sample

Check the sock flat for repeat consistency and construction alignment, then check it worn for stretch, readability, balance, and logo legibility. Review front, back, sides, heel, foot, cuff, and the transition between zones.

If the pattern will run across several sizes, confirm whether one repeat works for the full range or whether spacing and scale need adjustment.

5. Create an approval record for bulk

The record should identify the final artwork file, sample version, construction, material, yarn colors, size, logo placement, and any accepted limitations. Packaging and product-page images should describe the same approved colorway.

  • Final artwork and color references
  • Approved physical sample and size
  • Material and construction specification
  • Logo and motif placement notes
  • Packaging, SKU, and colorway name

Bring the brief

Ready to make it sample-ready?

Send the original artwork, color references, target size range, compression direction, material, logo, and quantity. We can translate the concept into knit-ready artwork and define what to review in the sample.
